My overall impression

A timely topic, sharp writing, and a superb cast make #Hashtag one of this year’s Fringe must-see shows. It’s a well-executed piece full of great performances. Keep an eye out for subtle yet wonderful physical flourishes in Spencer Howard’s and Nathan Turner’s performances.

It’s amazing how much the show packs into 50 minutes. It never feels overwhelming, however, thanks to effective use of projections, slick directing, and the great chemistry of the ensemble cast. The projections are notably well-utilized—sometimes guiding the audience, sometimes being in the forefront of the action.

What’s particularly great about #Hashtag is how effectively it captures the multiple ways in which people interact with social media. I’m sure that almost everyone will walk away from this show having seen a reflection of themselves in one character or other. Don’t miss this poignant, thoroughly enjoyable, new piece!
