LOS ANGELES, CA, MAY 11th, 2017 An ensemble biography following the true story of the all but forgotten war nurse and hero Mary Seacole. A black nurse from Jamaica; Mary (Amy Argyle) set out to prove herself in the field of medicine. Becoming both a person of business and nursing she would set up an outfit in Panama that would lead her on amazing adventures. These adventures would have her crossing paths with American prospectors, British soldiers and even Florence Nightingale. Facing many obstacles such as hurtful rumors, deadly diseases, bigotry, sexism and accusations against her “controversial” methods Mary will have to continually struggle to prove herself.

“I made up my mind, if the army needed nurses they’d be glad to have me!” with tenacity, grit and wit to match Mary was a true character whom time has forgotten about for far too long. “Mary’s Medicine” at last brings this incredible story to life.

Listed by Buzzfeed as one of the Top 5 most anticipated plays of the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2017. This is a story for anyone who has ever felt that history class skipped over important people in history due to their: race, creed, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, etc.

A family friendly production “Mary’s Medicine” looks to encourage and inspire audience members of all ages. A story filled with; drama, comedy, love, colorful characters and lesser-known history there is something for everyone!

Writer and director Matthew S. Robinson was inspired while visiting the Getty Museum in Los Angeles, there he came upon the marble bust of Mary Seacole; sculpted by Henry Weekes. Determined to share her life with others he read her autobiography “The Wonderful Adventures of Mrs. Mary Seacole in Many Lands.” While reading he discovered all her accomplishments and learned of many who tried to discredit her legacy, strengthening his resolve to introduce her through the art of theatre.

Written/Directed by Matthew S. Robinson the ensemble cast features; Amy Argyle, Robby DeVillez, Twon Pope, Francesca Gámez , Alycia Lourim, Jantzen Zink & Emilie Martz.
