IMMERSIVE, INTIMATE HAMLET-MOBILE ROLLS INTO HOLLYWOOD FRINGE
IT’S HAMLET…IN A VAN

LOS ANGELES, May 18, 2015—Hamlet-Mobile is an immersive, intimate adaptation of Hamlet staged in a van and hitting the streets of Hollywood in June for the 2015 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Presenting a rotating rep of eight short plays inspired by Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the Hamlet-Mobile will travel to various locations around the Hollywood Fringe Festival. At each stop, the four actors of Hamlet-Mobile will park the van and perform for tiny audiences of two to four people, repeating the short play of the day several times over the course of the performance period. Like a food truck, the Hamlet-Mobile will only announce where it is going and which of the eight plays it is performing the day of the event via twitter (@HamletMobile), its website (hamlet-mobile.com) and on the Hollywood Fringe site (hff15.org/2453).

Drawing on the rich history of American road trips, traveling theater troupes, and 1970s Venice Beach culture, HAMLET-MOBILE is about turning ordinary spaces into extraordinary experiences, creating personal connection with an audience, and diving deep into a story that’s captivated human beings for over 400 years. The piece has been developed through a collaborative devising process involving the production team, actors, and designers, which a focus on the theme of grief in the play.

HAMLET-MOBILE is the first venture of Capital W, a production group helmed by Hollywood Fringe Festival veterans Lauren Ludwig (Director/Writer) and Monica Miklas (Producer), who share a passion for unconventional and site-specific theater. Both women have made a name for themselves at the Fringe through their work with perennial festival favorite Lost Moon Radio, which won “Top of the Fringe” in 2012 and “Best of Comedy” in 2011 and 2012. Hamlet-Mobile features actors JB Waterman, Lizzie Prestel, Heather Gottlieb, and Hunter Seagroves; costumes by Rachel Weir; lighting by Brandon Baruch; van wizardry by Timothy Kuehn; production design by Shing Khor; and sound design by Dave McKeever.

Performances of Hamlet-Mobile begin on June 5 and continue four to five days per week through June 28 within the Hollywood Fringe Festival boundaries. Exact performances times and the location of the van will be announced on the morning of performance days. Experiencing Hamlet-Mobile is free; a waiting list is formed at the van on first-come, first-served basis. Press seeking to review Hamlet-Mobile or patrons in need of special assistance should contact Monica Miklas to make arrangements. For more information visit hamlet-mobile.com or hff15.org/2453.
