Los Angeles, California – April 12, 2014 - Philosophy, poetry, politics and punishment reign supreme in The Singing School, a world premiere play by Los Angeles playwright James Domine, showing May 29-31 and June 1 at the Actors Forum Theatre and June 14-15 at the Lillian Theatre, in conjunction with the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

The Singing School, set in colonial Boston circa 1715, is a romantic story of magic and music, with American Gothic overtones. Themes of religion, witchcraft, royal tyranny, corruption and superstition are wrought into a complex tapestry of love and death.

Author James Domine, a Los Angeles native, is a multi-faceted artist, composer, musician and conductor. His novel, The Naked Man, was published in 2006 followed by his play, Tomahawk, that received its premiere at the Actors’ Forum Theater in 2008. Domine’s second play, Dogs of War, Or, That’s What Friends Are For, received its inaugural performances at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in 2011. His collection of seven epic poems was published this year.

A graduate of UCLA, Domine received his masters in composition from USC and is currently completing his doctorate in musical arts from Boston University. Domine is the founder, musical director and conductor of the San Fernando Valley Symphony Orchestra, which features a year-round concert series in Woodland Hills. He plays lead guitar and writes songs for the Molay Band and the Screaming Clams, performs regularly with the Symphomaniax, and currently teaches music at Pierce College.

The Singing School world premiere is directed by Gene Putnam and will feature an ensemble cast of Los Angeles-area actors including Deborah Ashton, Taylor Michelle Boles, Lewis Brian, Cyler Criswell, Frank Danna, Matt DeHaven, Nina Donato, Rebecca Honett, Michael Hovance, Peter Kaufman, Maeve Kiely, Rebecca Marez, Patrick McGrath, Manuel Olguin Jr., Clare Plauzoles, Debbie Savitsky, Colleen Shelley, Inga Stamboltyan and Vance Wells. Taylor Cullen serves as stage management with lighting design by Brent Isaac Molina.

Performances run May 30th- 31st at 8 pm and June 1st at 2 pm at Actors’ Forum Theatre (10655 Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood) and June 14th at 6 pm, June 15th and 22nd at 7 pm at the Lillian Theatre (1076 Lillian Way, Los Angeles) as part of the Hollywood Fringe Festival.
