What I liked

I loved the effusive and engaging rhythm with which the cast poured out this renowned story. They each have a unique spin on each character, that meshes together for a beautiful collaboration. Shashona Brooks’ and Say Yes Collective’s vision of making women the subject and not the object delivers in riveting and rowdy performances by a diverse and engaging cast. Stand outs for me personally were Lauren Lopez as Caliban, Olivia Buntaine as Prosper and Miriam Salamah as Stephano. However, everyone did great!

What I didn't like

I feel like there was a dissonance with it being a rough and tumble prison setting, yet using Shakespearean rhyme. All characters were human, creative and delivered with sincere relish. Yet some actresses seemed to embrace the meter more than others. Taking me (personally) out, wondering am I watching a Shakespeare play? Or a modern edgy play about the humanity of neglected humanity?

My overall impression

A fasinating performance of Shakespeare with modern themes and setting. Yet, retaining the projection and aura of olde time stage magic and power.
