Joy tells you all about her shitty relationships so you can (hopefully) learn from her mistakes. It’s a close look at sexuality, family dysfunction, addiction, and recovery through a female Asian American lens, all wrapped up in a comedic, (maybe) easy to swallow pill.
A mix of storytelling, slideshow, a little bit of stand up, and 2% Ted Talk. You get to benefit from Joy’s thousands of dollars and hours spent on therapy (couples, individual, AND group!), self help books, and 12 step programs for much less money!
BODY COUNT was developed as part of the inaugural East West Players solo show scholarship cohort sponsored by Amy Hill. Playwright Alice Tuan helped develop the piece for the first few months as part of the class, after which director Giovanni Ortega took over for a few weeks for the performance focused part of the class.
Joy Regullano is a writer / actor / comedian based in LA who recently wrote for the animated show MONSTERS AT WORK (based on MONSTERS INC) on Disney Plus.
Previously, she wrote on JELLY, BEN, & POGO (PBS Kids), KUNG FU PANDA: DRAGON KNIGHT (Netflix), THE HEALING POWERS OF DUDE (Netflix), several Sesame Workshop digital shorts, and she was a Sesame Street writing fellow. She was recently nominated for an Emmy for writing on Sesame Street’s Word of the Day series.
TV acting credits include BARRY, LINCOLN LAWYER, CRAZY EX-GIRLFRIEND, MODERN FAMILY, SPEECHLESS, HOUSE OF LIES, and SUPERNATURAL. Stage acting credits include The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Takarazuka!!!, and Our Town.
She wrote the book and lyrics for and starred in an original comedy musical, SUPPORTIVE WHITE PARENTS, about an Asian girl who wishes on a shooting star for supportive white parents. It ran at UCB, the Hollywood Fringe Festival, and Second City Hollywood to sold-out crowds. Check out the concept album on all major streaming platforms.
Her YouTube sketch WHITE FETISH, about an Asian girl with a white guy fetish, went viral with 1M+ views and has been featured in the Huffington Post, Upworthy, and more.
Fran de Leon (director)
Multi-hyphenate artist Fran de Leon was born in Downtown LA, and spent her childhood in both Manila and Hollywood. Her one person show, FACES OF AMERICA, has been performed over 500 times across the country including for the United Nations Association in NY and LA.
