Red Bastard

It was an honor watching a master at work. His message was beautifully communicated and hilariously explored with the audience. The ease with which he performs makes him fascinating from start to finish. I learned so much from this show.... full review

I rearranged my schedule and came to see Red Bastard without the slightest idea what to expect, based solely on the recommendation of Sound & Fury's Richard Maritzer. I was not prepared for the awesomeness of this show. From the moment Eric Davis (Cirque du Soleil's Iris)stepped onto the stage in the most outlandish costume imaginable, his presence filled the theater with power. Davis exudes strength, knowledge and the overwhelming desire to help his audience by challenging their beliefs. This is NOT a comedy piece, although it is hilarious, funny and in-your-face. What it IS is an exercise in self-analysis and introspection. If you are honest, with yourself and with others, you cannot help but be transformed by the performance. ... full review

Thrilling. Moment to moment I was eager and a little afraid of what would come next. Red Bastard encouraged me to push through my fears which he first, so artfully, awoken. Anything goes in this show, except monotony and laziness. A true gift. A true sacrifice. I aspire to be able to listen and give and be brave and provocative as Red Bastard is. ... full review

Red-hooded, bare-footed and strutting like a chicken, *Davis* takes to the empty stage and for the course of his 80-minute, one act show proceeds to interrogate audience members, aggressively insisting on participation and extracting private hopes, dreams, details such as where they work and if they like their job. The Red Bastard is amazing. Physically so fun, very clever and after what I saw tonight he can handle an audience well. He detonates so many ideas and thoughts with us that there was no telling where and how far we would go but one thing is certain. I loved it and I loved how far we went. Eric Davis is a performer who cannot be contained. Audiences should be warned that, while hilarious - Red Bastard is an evening of crazy, in your face, and unpredictable theatre. Anything can and will happen. ... full review
