Unbelievably Cool is a shocking piece written and performed by Joaquin Ramirez. A raw monologue told from the point of view of an observer who pictures himself as somewhat of an outcast. Despite his apparent distrust toward others, and likely yourself, he decides to confide in the audience. Telling them about what it’s like growing up with an unusual name, the things he likes, the people he hates… and what he wishes he could do to them. ​​It examines thoughts shared with many others who have been abused in any way, which is, “What if I could hurt them back? What if I could MAKE them say they’re sorry?” It’s a scary thought to have, which the play recognizes, but it’s even more scary that multiple people have followed through with these same thoughts. Ramirez created an undoubtedly biting and relatable masterpiece, indulgent in all the right ways.
