RICHARD ADAMS, The World Socialist Website (to be posted soon) This world premiere written and directed by Paul Hoan Zeidler features Charles Pacello (Maple) and Etienne Eckert (Glennie). Glennie and Maple’s story is told in a series of five “morning afters” that track their on-again, off-again relationship. Glennie, damaged by an abusive relationship with a former lover, struggles with depression and battered self-esteem; Maple revels in his role as her self-appointed savior. She resents his unshakable sympathy, he resents her lack of appreciation. It’s a recipe for dysfunctionality that only Glennie seems to understand. So I just sort of happened into the theatre to see "Glennie and Maple." I was walking by not planning to see a show at that particular moment but, hey, this is Fringe. Why not? And you know what? I was rewarded. This is a keenly observed relationship piece. It is quiet, considered and features many small moments of truth and honesty about the nature of people and relationships. "Glennie and Maple" is not necessarily a mind-blowingly original take on these issues but the two performances deserve to be seen. The acting is spot-on and I really felt for the characters even though my time with them was fairly brief. This production will make you smile. It will make you feel. These are two human beings in front of us. Struggling and... full review

Paul Hoan Zeidler has done it again. For a play with a running time of less than an hour, he miraculously covers the immense landscape of the human heart. Charles and Etienne have incredible chemistry together as we see them in every aspect of a turbulent relationship. I’ve seen their work with the Elephant Theatre Company in seasons past, and they never cease to amaze me. Truly a heartbreaking, moody, beautiful story. See for yourself.... full review

Wonderful performances - written and performed by very talented Elephant Theatre Company members. Yay Ettienne, Charlie & Paul.... full review

Paul Hoan Zeidler, Glennie & Maple's writer/director, has found the immense power of those silently charged moments in any relationship that, depending on what's said or not said, done or not done next will change lives forever. While many plays explore the dynamics of dysfunctional love, this one, fully inhabited by Charles Pacello and Etienne Eckert as Maple and Glennie, navigates turbulent emotional waters I for one have never seen so fully examined on stage. I've been a fan of Zeidler's past work, and this is one of his best. And for anyone who's ever had the pleasure of seeing Pacello and Eckert on stage at the Elephant or with SpyAnts or at Stella Adler, they once more bring a rich, palpable, and often humorous humanity to their work h... full review
