Kilmer v. Brando

Ensemble Theatre · glass half productions · Ages 16+ · United States of America

world premiere

In 1995, director Richard Stanley traveled to the rain forests of Australia to film his dream project, a new screen adaptation of H.G. Wells’ “The Island of Dr. Moreau”. He had the financial and creative support of New Line Cinema, and had assembled an impressive cast including leading man Val Kilmer, and screen legend Marlon Brando. When Stanley was unceremoniously removed from his own project and replaced with infamous hothead, John Frankenheimer, what transpired next is the stuff of legend, culminating in a standoff between Kilmer and Brando that left the cast and crew wondering if filming would ever resume. This is the story of the several hours when two of the most respected actors in the world cemented themselves in the annals of film history and became…well…less respected. Based on the documentary, Lost Soul: The Doomed Journey of Richard Stanley’s Island of Dr. Moreau.
