There are some nice theatrical touches peppered throughout. I found the drug dealer and ob-gyn portrayals believable so I’ll keep an eye out for those actors in the future.
What I didn't like
The script is over-written with dense monologues replacing interesting character interaction.
I was not led to care about any of the characters, and by extension anything that was happening that I was supposed to have a vested interest in.
The success of the play hinges on the central character having a convincing sassy-campy-charisma turned up to an 11/10, but it missed its mark.
More rehearsal to get lines as second nature.
The plot didn’t make complete sense to me: why select a new leader from people that are not even in the cult? And why these three? Couldn’t ‘Adam’ select good candidates, or was the whole thing his attention seeking folly? In any case, ‘Adam’ renders everything inconsequential – and then we get a new leader without the process. So none of it mattered. On the way out I asked someone what the point of our stickers were, and she replied – what was the point of any of it? And that is kind of how I felt too.
My overall impression
I want to be constructive but the bottom-line here is that I would strongly recommend giving this a miss in its current form.
