Sometimes you have to laugh to keep from crying! Writer/director William Tolan Lawrence's Converted: the Exorcism of Matthew Hall is a stark, hilarious, and unapologetic take on Conversion Therapy that dramatizes a moment when religion, homophobia, and unchecked capitalism collide with the will of a fully actualized gay youth who refuses to drink the kool-aid of the Self-Righteous! Lawrence's direction is spare and stylized, taking advantage of a talented cast of performers capable of navigating delightfully surprising shifts in style and performance genre. The audience toggles between hysteria and revelation, and by the time we hit the finish line (thank you for having a tight show- 38 minutes!) we have received holy lessons that we cannot...

Well written and excellent cast! Worth it to see Matt Kelly who is a stand out in the cast. Funny and at the same time thought provoking. I would say definitely GO!...

There is definitely some interesting elements in play with Converted. The topic is very relevant and important. I personally would have liked to have seen those topics being treated with more weight, but the comedic route that the play took is still a valid option to mock the absurdity of the gay conversion camps. There are some great performances here, and I think it's worth seeing. ...

Sometimes you just need a big ole splash of gay to make your day, and this play was it. Just 45 minutes long, it was well acted and very funny. I really enjoyed it and had a great time. I really hope it reaches a wider (straighter) audience as I think more LGBTQIA perspectives are sorely needed in fringe!...

The topic of this show is incredibly important and under-discussed- I love the idea of this show. I really like the device used to switch between fantasy and reality, but the whole production seemed to be geared toward sketch-like comedy... that's great- and it was laugh-out-loud funny at times, but then the show would suddenly be in an unearned deep moment... the whole thing sort of felt like having a conversation with a friend who hadn't dealt with their feelings on a topic- they're laughing, but you're crying- no one is on the same page. I'd love to see this show commit more to the dramatic and real aspect, but for now I don't think the show knows what it is....
