Pure Shock Value rocks Hollywood Fringe [Film]

All around the TCG conference and concurrent festivals, theater people are voicing questions and concerns about the viral encroachment of media into theater. Speculation on eventual outcomes abounds.
Into the fray comes the Furious Theatre Company – premiering a movie. So from the get-go, Pure Shock Value is about as encroached as it gets.
Film was the next logical step for them, according to Managing Director Nick Cernoch. It’s a first film by director Damaso Rodrigues, a co-founding artistic director of the theatre company, and it’s David Hall’s first produced screenplay.
I expected an amateur effort by actors who, understandably, would not necessarily know how to handle the medium’s technical demands or the unique demands of film acting.

A FILM BY FURIOUS THEATRE CHOSEN AS CENTERPIECE FEATURE OF HOLLYWOOD FRINGE [film] FESTIVAL
June 20, 2011June 9, 2011…Hollywood…the Hollywood Fringe Festival has chosen PURE SHOCK VALUE, a film made by the ensemble members of Los Angeles’ Furious Theatre Company, as the Centerpiece Feature Film of its Fringe [film] programming, a new branch of the festival this year that has sponsored a venue dedicated solely to the presentation of “fringe” film. As the designated centerpiece of the film presentations, PURE SHOCK VALUE will receive four screenings at Artworks Theatre and Studios, 6569 Santa Monica Blvd. in Hollywood. The screenings are on Friday, June 17 at 8 pm; Sunday, June 19 at 6:15 pm; Friday, June 24 at 6:15 pm; and Saturday June 25 at 10:15pm. The Furious-made movie stars ensemble members Nick Cernoch, James C. Leary, Vonessa Martin and Brad Price.
