What I liked

The play managed the rare feat of balancing ferocious humor and affecting emotional depth. We’re given very specific individual situations (without spoiling the plot, ranging from a moody gay teen to a prim, no nonsense religious middle aged woman), but are left to guess what the true mythology of this world is. Yet, the universal themes of fall, redemption and the possibility of forgiveness (or damnation) are concepts the audience can relate to, regardless of one’s beliefs.

What I didn't like

One might complain about the minimalist decor, but I felt it was functional and didn’t detract from the story. I only had one instance of confusion—I couldn’t figure out the difference between both sets of phones, and although the context eventually revealed what they were, perhaps clarifying that plot point would enhance the audience’s experience of an otherwise solidly good play.

My overall impression

“Just One Moment” is a thought provoking, touching and sometimes hilarious take on what would happen if you threw together a handful of dead misfits from all walks of life in an office, and tasked them with running a call processing service for the departed and their loved ones, complete with inter-office and HR drama. The well written plot and the talented cast carry on a story one quickly becomes engrossed in.
