In My Own Defense is belly laugh funny from beginning to end, propelled by a true-to-life story and a great performance by author/performer Murray Meyer. The story is "It's a Wonderful Life" turned upside down, wherein George Bailey splits from his wife and kids and small town life to pursue his own dreams of fame and fortune. In Murray's case it's the "do your own thing" 1960s that causes him to leave his wife and three young children in Vancouver to enroll in NYC Film School to become an auteur filmmaker. Things don't work out and Murray ends up in LA going to law school and living with his two teenage sons that his wife has sent down to live with him. It was very, very funny, it was very entertaining, and it was very, very thought provoking. If you are under 40 you will learn a lot from this play, if you are over 40 you will learn how not to take your past too seriously.... full review

Enjoyable time at the theatre. Murray is a natural born storyteller. He describes his journey with self deprecating good humor and manages to drive home a few life lessons on the way.... full review

Loved this show. Engaging, easy to watch and a full trip through 1980's life in Hollywood. Images and characters very strong and Meyer is an engaging performer. Intimate space give you the relaxed feeling of being in your own living room - listening to your best story telling friend. Fun!... full review
