Fresh Meat Opens June 3, 2018

Fresh Meat happened when playwright Karen Casady responded to a prompt to write about something that is the complete opposite of humanism.
“Don’t ask me why, but cannibalism popped into my mind,” Casady said. “I thought cannibalism is about as opposite of humanism as you can get.”
She quickly envisioned a scene in which two cannibals are arguing about their favorite body parts: “Elbows are my favorite.” “No, I really like the upper arm.” That scene evolved into Fresh Meat, a dark comedy set in a dystopian society in which people are sentenced to be eaten when convicted of a crime.
Now along with director Eric White, they have brought Fresh Meat to life. “I call it a dalliance,” Casady said, “because the play dallies about with an absurd group of characters who include cannibals, furries, a butcher and, of course, the fresh meat.”

Meat Sarah Kline, Costume and Set Designer Extraordinaire

Meat Sarah Kline, our costume and set designer! Fresh Meat is her second Hollywood Fringe production. Last year she designed the costumes for the HF production of Paggliacis, an Encore Award winner written by Harim Sanchez and performed at The Actors Company. She is also a dedicated singer and actor. This summer Sarah will be joining the Art of Acting Studio as a conservatory member. She is a recent graduate from Cal State Northridge where she earned a BA in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Musical Theater. May your most excellent costume vibes bring us an award too!

Director Eric White Brings Award-Winning Experience to Fresh Meat

Meet Eric White, our director. He made his directorial debut at last year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival with Pagliaccis by Harim Sanchez at the Actor’s Company (Winner of Encore Producers Award). Fresh Meat is having a great time working with him. Maybe we’ll win an award too!

He is a recent graduate of California State University, Northridge with a B.A. in Theatre. While at CSUN he co-directed Angels in America Part 1 and a workshop production of The Object by Bruce Millstein. As an actor he appeared in CSUN’s productions Ubu Roi, Arcadia, Tea Party & Idiot’s Delight (Irene Ryan Nomination), Incorruptible (LAPC) & Parade (GPAC).

Eric also stage manages, having just finished working with Ovation winning Actor’s Co-op on their production of A Man for All Seasons. Other stage management credits include Assassins, Lion King (CSUN) and The Richard Nixon Sex Tapes (Stephanie Feury Studio).

He is currently collaborating with Rosa Sandoval of Fearless Movement on her new piece Home-
