In this piece as lovely and delicate as a handmade pair of wings, Fiona Lakeland deftly embodies the physicality and spirit of a fully realized character: 11 year old Charlotte, who is both naive and wise, vulnerable and brave. We’re invited into her rich inner world, a magical place which seems a necessary escape from a home life evoked in troubling, sparingly doled out details. Lakeland doesn’t shy away from this darkness but lets it inform what is ultimately a hopeful play about transcending fear and attempting the impossible.
