Bono and The Edge Waiting for Godomino's

LOVED this show soooo much!! Easily the best way to start this year of Fringing... insanely clever writing paired with strong individual performances for all 4 of them AND an incredible ensemble. A perfect parody with just the right dose of hilarity and heart. World-class acting with total commitment makes the comedy all the more heightened, and the piece generally delightful. Even if you haven't brushed up on your Beckett, you'll be totally transfixed by this immensely talented cast. As for those who do know Godot, the writing is spot on, and it's bizarre how well-suited the play adapts to being about U2 and pizza-- it takes a special kind of vision to see that connection, and Richard totally nails it. While the play's a total joy for theater nerds, it also lampoons celebrity culture and eco-commerce enough to make it accessible to all of us.... full review

Very funny, really captured the pretentious, narcissistic behavior of super-famous celebrites, who still consider themselves "artistes" who represent/speak for/understand the "common" folk, but have in reality become completely out-of-touch billionaires themselves-- we're looking at you, U2! :)... full review

I am very grateful that I chose ...WAITING FOR GODOMINO'S as my starting point through the many living moments I hope to experience on the Fringe. The cast was strong and impelling, taking me through their comedic repertoire with clarity and aplomb. I was taken in from the first moment as Bono (Richard Lucas) appeared in anticipatory tableau - through to the final payoff before the lights faded down and out. Lucas, who also wrote and directed the piece, was a perfect Bono, moving through each moment as if posing for the next issue of ROLLING STONE. Curt Collier (The Edge), Bruno Oliver (Domingo) and Jeff Blumberg (Lucky) all fully embodied their characters, bringing laughter out of each moment of absurdity and truth. I had--and you WILL have--a blast at this show. By cleverly combining Bono's search for meaning in his life with The Edge's search for a pizza into Beckett's stark, hilarious landscape, Richard has stood Godot on its head. When I first saw this title I thought "This is either going to be amazing or a disaster. There is no in between." Well, it's amazing. Great performances (with a stand-out by Jeff Blumberg!) all around, and it's way more than a parody - GODOMINOES tackles the idea of fame and how we can quickly and accidentally lose touch with our humanity and personal relationships.
