June 13, 2016What I liked
I liked the woman who played Kathryn and her co-conspirator who convincingly, without obviously, settled into his odd relationship with Scott for his own personal benefit. Very LA. The woman who played Kathryn was very grounded and honest and was one of the few performances I believed. I’d like to see a lot more given to this actress.
What I didn't like
Everything else.
My overall impression
I really can’t believe that this production is getting some of the other reviews it has gotten. It was a complete mish-mosh of a storyline, just jumping over huge sections of what would have been important details just to get to the part when the men would have to take off their pants, which was honestly completely unnecessary except for the fact that it’s a sex addict production and seeing penises around the theatre all day is probably just kindling to that raging fire. There was evident racist themes, like the part where everyone just stops to twerk their heads to Beyonce. Yes, Beyonce is queen but why…. that had NOTHING to do with the rest of the show and was completely disorienting, as if the rest of the production wasn’t already. I wish I hadn’t spent an hour and half wondering what the point to this play was… Once a sex addict, always a sex addict? Attempting to make rape art? Well as a rape victim, it is not art. It’s horrifying and scarring and it made me very upset. Where was the character development for most of the cast… by the end I still had no idea what anyone’s real function was within the play, their personality or really anything about them at all. It’s unfortunate I’ll never get that time back, but at least I can tell other people about it. I’d advise skipping this one.
