June 13, 2016With hundreds of shows to choose from, how can you get the most from Hollywood Fringe Festival 2016? Easy. See these three plays and be glad you still see theater.
In just 45 minutes, co-directors Megan Foley Marra and Chuck Marra take 13 stories delivered by 13 actors across all ages, and provide audiences with nothing but gratitude. Fans of storytelling shows like The Moth and Taboo Tales will be touched and moved as each story of personal honesty and truth are beautifully related in an intimate space.
One story may be about a sexist male boss determined to break a woman (Jodi Adler, heart-wrenchingly authentic). Another will bring us a tale of a mother whose children leave home and leave her torn to pieces (Laura Lanoil, equally heartbreaking). Another woman (Jessa Pyette, soulful and loving) talks about being taken in by a Mormon family.
Why the title? Each actor speaks to the audience as if we are the person they are speaking about. With each voice, every member of the audience

These are the reverse of ghost stories. The intimate experiences are fascinating and pull you in, but instead of being scared out of your wits, these stories pierce your heart with feelings of love and wisdom.
It all takes place in the ensemble piece, “You” at the Hollywood Fringe Festival beginning Saturday, June 4 at 4pm. Thirteen actor/writers communicate to an audience member as if to someone who changed their lives. As you listen, you ride the ups and downs of the experiences and begin to understand why they are so meaningful.
It makes you want to put down the cell phones and tell someone why you care.
The brainchild of directors Megan Foley and Chuck Marra of Foley Marra Casting, the project emerged as they coached members of their monthly master class for actors.
Five performances will be performed at The Other Space Theatre, 916 N. Formosa, June 4- 25. Tickets are $10.

June 06, 2016YOU at the Fringe Festival Review – Yes, It’s All About You
By Gerald Everett Jones
Previewed just before the opening of the Hollywood Fringe Festival, YOU is billed as “an in-your-face play about love, life and gratitude.” As promised, it’s in your face because these thirteen actors give it to you full frontally – some seated, some standing. Oh, you think, It’s another actors’ showcase. But then, contrary to your expectation, at rise the actors are not focused at all on you – they’re preoccupied with their cell phones. Oh, you think now, This is going to be about them. Ultimately, it should be no surprise but profoundly touching – that it’s all about them and what you (yes, you) have meant to them.
A notable performance among more than 1,500 at the Fringe (The Foley Marra Project)
Because these actors – who range in age from mature to grade-school – are telling their personal truths. It’s as if thirteen one-person soul-baring shows were carved up and then woven together with n

“YOU” an original, one-of-a-kind production, premieres Saturday, June 4, 2016, at this year’s Hollywood Fringe Festival. What is “YOU” you may ask? It is an “in your face” one-act, original play about the digital age and gratitude. Thirteen actors, writers, and musicians take the stage—at the same time—sharing their stories— in a moving, heartfelt, fast-paced, and funny way—woven together as a tapestry of life.
Gratitude does not mean a short text TY in “YOU”—it means looking someone straight in the face and offering a (sometimes long overdue) “Thank you.” No need to use your phone or laptop or computer—what if you actually had the opportunity to tell someone how they changed your life—in person and communicating aloud? “YOU” is real talk for real people—without the need for a screen.
“YOU” begins as the actors actually dare to put down their devices and speak as people speak, communicating simply as human beings, w

May 18, 2016“YOU”, an “in YOUR face” one-act, original play about the digital age and gratitude
premieres at the 2016 Hollywood Fringe Festival. Presented by the Lake Arrowhead
Repertory Theatre Company and Foley-Marra Casting, “YOU” is directed by the award
winning team of Chuck Marra and Megan Foley Marra. It stars 13 actors, writers, and
musicians.
“YOU” interweaves personal stories, with songs of gratitude and love in a lively,
humorous, moving, fast-paced, short play while reminding us how brave it is to look at
someone and express our thanks for the changes—big and small—that they’ve brought
to our lives.
Imagine this—the play opens with actors lit by their devices: cell phones, tablets, and
computers. Without a grand set, “YOU” begins with human beings who actually dare to
put down their devices and speak as people speak, communicating simply as human
beings without the need to reference anything more than their emotions. Quite a
concept in our digital age.
So often, we sit in
