June 22, 2016For fringeview.com. Genre-parody is a staple of the Sacred Fools long-running late-night show Serial Killers where this show was born. Peter Fluet has refined his run of episodes into an hour long comedy that can more accurately mimic the structure of the shows that he is skewering.
Carrie Keranen plays Lynn Alvarodo, a manically hard-working cop whose partner has just been killed. She has a long-suffering husband (Pete Caslavka) and a father who is also her boss (Peter Fluet). The “Lamprey” of the title is the nickname that Lynn thinks she should be known by, a running gag that pays off.
Keranen is a whirlwind, completely fearless physically, she propels herself through a succession of TV length scenes; each twist in the satisfyingly-convoluted plot raising the stakes and making her question who her allies are. Fluet, a veteran improviser, is great as The Chief, his split-second switching between being Lynn’s bullying boss and her concerned father is a treat. He also doubles as James

Lynn Alvarado (Carrie Keranen) is an L.A. detective who possesses more than a little enthusiasm for her job, much to the chagrin of her long-suffering husband, Chris (Pete Caslavka). She fancies herself a supercop who demands to be referred to as “the Lamprey” – yes, one of those eel-like creatures with a mouthful of sharp fangs. This moniker constantly elicits eye-rolling responses from her coworkers and the department chief (Peter Fluet), who also happens to be her father.
When Lynn’s partner is gunned down in a stakeout gone bad, Lynn swings into action to avenge her death. There’s just one problem: Chris has purchased non-refundable tickets for a Disney cruise that departs on Monday, so she only has one short weekend to achieve her vengeance.

An eellike aquatic jawless vertebrate that has a sucker mouth with horny teeth and a rasping tongue. The adult is often parasitic, attaching itself to other fish and sucking their blood.
Written in true, Peter Fluet tradition of bizarre juxtapositions, non-sequiturs, irrational situations and utter nonsense, Lamprey boasts the most awkwardly sexual, hysterical, retro genre referencing, police detective script quite possibly written – to date (at least in LA!)
Taking absurdity to a new high actress Carrie Keranen is stupendous as the ultimate hard-core, wannabe action hero cop, housewife and mom (Angie Dickinson move over!) who just can’t quit a homicide. The energy output alone for this role is mind-boggling.

‘LAMPREY’ Set for Hollywood Fringe This June
The Lamprey is a cop named Lynn Alvarado who is trying to get people to call her the Lamprey. She also has to solve the murder of her partner, but only has one weekend to do it! Her family has gotten non-refundable tickets for a Disney Cruise that leaves on Monday morning, and she like, HAS to be on it. The Lamprey must navigate the criminal world of Los Angeles, some by-the-book internal affairs agents, a masked killer looking to take her out and the to do list that her husband gave her. SOMEONE must get vengeance for her partner and also get the kids to Romp and Roll, and that someone is the Lamprey. Can one woman really have it all, when everyone is trying to kill her?
