Laura Carson is an honest, sincere and effortlessly engaging performer whose one-person show wafts over you like the familiar scent of the countryside...tainted with the tang of rot-gut whiskey. An account of a recent cross-roads moment in her life when she left the addicting, but often painful life of the Los Angeles acting world for a return to her southern homeland to assist her irascible, soon-too-be ailing widowed father, Laura paints a motion picture of images and sounds(the sound design is brilliant by the way) alternately hilarious and heartbreaking, sometimes at the same time. Ms. Carson channels the mature, late-70s Carol Burnett at times, indeed I was often reminded of the "Mama's Family" sketches, particularly the ones whe... full review

A terrifically well done one woman show. Quite moving while managing to be funny and insightful at the same time about a topic that all of us either are facing or probably will face at some point. ... full review

I was moved to tears and laughter from Laura's show and performance. Her personal tale became an engaging theatrical event , with very few props required and yet, I could completely visualize her home and father. Laura Carson takes the journey many of us consider when she decides give up her LA life and pursuit of her career to return to Atlanta to care for her elderly father. This is just the first of many difficult choices she makes in this very personal journey. The consequences of her actions range from heart warming to heart wrenching, leaving her in a strange and wondrous afterglow of introspection, where from moment to moment she questions, hates, love or affirms her life, a few instances all at the same time. This nostalgic but also very real look at a difficult portion of her life is an exercise many artists would not have the guts to take. Luckily for us, Laura does and with remarkable humor and aplomb. While engaged in this show, audience ... full review

this is a lovely show by a talented, comfortable actress with true chops! Here characters are spot on... (some of the best I've seen in a long time), her writing is great, and her insight is perfect. Not too much, not too little. A beautiful show about a father and daughter... and a woman who's at her lowest and what transpires to get her back on her feet. Wonderfully directed and not a moment wasted. ... full review

Booze, Balls and Bluegrass is a show not to be missed. Laura Carson is a thoroughly engaging and honest storyteller with a wry and compassionate sense of humor and a relatable, entertaining and heartfelt tale to tell. It's well staged and beautifully performed. There is not a false note in the evening, nor is there a moment of self-pity or demand for sympathy and attention by reason of existence that can plague one-person shows. One-person shows live or die based on whether or not you want to spend time with the storyteller. You'll want to spend a lot longer than the hour that you get with Laura.... full review

Just sit back and go for the ride. Laura's openness, honesty, and willingness to share her story is a gift for the audience. She avoids the trap of self indulgence and, instead, presents the facts of her story in a colorfully moving and humorous way. She flows effortlessly from character to character and exudes a playful and joyous presence throughout the show. See it.... full review
