Only knowing that this was a one-woman show, I was amazed to find that that was understated. The work that Lincoln has put into this simple script by Menekseoglu is amazing! Under the direction of Weier, Rebecca brings the audience right into her house, her madness, and the darkness that has been haunting her. From the moment the audience enters, and Rebecca is huddled in a corner on the stage, we already know that this is not your normal story. And we are so glad. This show, while running under an hour, takes you on such a journey that you can't help but breathe a sigh of relief that it was only a play. In the wake of the teen-age pool party incident in Texas, nothing could be more relevant than Anna, In The Darkness. Rebecca Lincoln’s stellar performance helped lend an emphatic, up close and personal ear into the mind of a tortured soul. On one side, it’s absolutely heinous to see how such awful acts of humanity are so blindly justified by misplaced ideals of status quo or distorted religious convictions. On the other side, it was a pure delight to see, feel and taste the torment through the mind of someone who is losing theirs through the constant barrage of haunting threats by the people in her community. This was my favorite one-person show of this year's Fringe. The writing, sound design, and lights perfectly amalgamated to enhance and often play counterpart to the character's heartbreaking account of her descent into darkness. Never a dull moment, thanks to the staging and the talents of Rebecca and her ability to toggle between varying emotions of fear, regret, anger, confusion, and nostalgia, keeping the audience riveted with every twist. While dark, the show had moments of levity, and while the protagonist didn't triumph, Anna reminds us that there are others like her out there, like those of us taking in intimate theater, who care about imaginary tales, and despite those throwing bricks through the windows, dreamers and thinkers carry ... full review

Rebecca Lincoln is great as a tormented soul in this one-woman, psychological thriller. The audience doesn't see the horrifying people who are bent on destroying her, or entirely understand the reasons for their malice and hatred, but we certainly hear them - or at least what she THINKS she hears. Is her paranoia justified? You'll decide. The set, lighting, and especially the threatening voices and sound effects permeating the entire performance, are all effectively chilling. To me, this show was well made. I loved Rebecca Lincoln's performance, I believed every word. The sound and the lighting added to the heartbreaking realness of injustice, and how dark humans can be, especially if they believe they have righteousness on their side. Go see it. ... full review

Wow. Such a darkly compelling performance by Rebecca Lincoln in this stark, spooky piece. The titular Anna, a sad and haunted woman, is played to perfection by Ms. Lincoln. Her performance is well paired with the absolutely stunning sound design by Mark McClain Wilson. In fact, the soundscape is so dense and responsive, it's arguably the other "character" in this solo show. A tightly crafted production, directed by the skilled Amanda Weier. Well done.... full review
