"Afraid of Karma" tackles the sticky issue of drunk driving with humor and heart

May 26, 2015

Every day in America, 28 people die as a result of drunk driving crashes. And yet 50-75% of convicted drunk drivers continue to drive on a suspended license. -Mothers Against Drunk Driving

“Afraid of Karma” is a multimedia solo musical that delivers a tour-de-force performance about one of these tragic losses: Hannah Engle, a 25 year-old grad student at NYU who was struck and killed by a drunk driver as she and her sister were crossing the street in New York City.

Harmony Jupiter plays Cyrenne, a love-addicted survivor of loss and trauma who takes the audiences on a roller coaster of hilarious romances, searing addiction and ultimately, healing. Ms. Jupiter co-wrote the show with producer Jonathan Baker, whose career spans Broadway theater credits such as “Billy Joel’s MOVIN’ OUT” and film marketing for Sony such as “Adaptation” “Big Fish” and “Lords of Dogtown.”

“Afraid of Karma” premieres at the Hollywood Fringe Festival on June 5 at 8:30pm and runs through June 27.
