En Route, subtitled “an all American Road trip” is a story through intersectionality..

Born into a traditional Black family Gabriel, goes on an unexpected road trip with his father to start his new life in Los Angeles. Traumatized by the death of Gabriel’s mother, the two men must find a way to carry on together, in their ever changing family and society.

Gabriel’s father Thomas is insistent on ensuring that Gabriel understands the consequences of being black as he steps into his new world, while ignoring the other side of his identity, gay .

As Gabriel embarks on this journey he is joined by the Ethereal goddess Miss Thang who, from the background, creates the current that allows him to love and accept himself in the face of his conservative father.
It’s not all doom and gloom, however. As Gabriel and Thomas make pit stops along the way, they share experiences and meet people that help them come closer together.
Being Black is complicated, being Black and queer is even more complicated as the two are often seen as anthesis to each other. You will have to see En Route to fully understand the gravity of being queer and Black simultaneously.

Steven Knox received a BFA degree in Theatre Acting/Directing from Sam Houston State University.
Director, Kevin Neighbors is an award winning solo artist who’s shows include the critically acclaimed VERSATILE and his second award winning show #RIPJONATHANXAVIER
