PRESS RELEASE- For Immediate Release

Hollywood, CA- Kira Powell’s Caught In The Mix Debuts at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

July 2021

A 2021 Hollywood Fringe Diversity Scholarship Winner, Kira Powell’s “Caught In The Mix” is an autobiographical one-woman show about Kira, a mixed race black and Latina woman, who grew up believing she was white. Writer and performer Kira Powell takes us on a journey with her through her life as she struggles to accept her true identity.

Kira embodies a cast of characters throughout the show, including family members who both hinder and help her in claiming her blackness. Kira’s truthfulness and vulnerability carries us through the difficult topics surrounding racism, anti-blackness, white favoritism, colorism, and what it’s like for a person of color to be raised in a household and society that idolizes whiteness. We follow her through her identity struggles into a life of self love and self worth.
