HOLLYWOOD FRINGE FESTIVAL PREMIERES “THE ORIGINAL ENGLISH” AND “MURDERFUCK”

Double Feature: The Original English & Murderfuck

Flyover Theater in partnership with Studio C will debut a night of comedy whiplash at the Hollywood Fringe Festival June 9th-30th. First, “The Original English” will make you laugh and contemplate; then, “Murderfuck” will jerk you violently toward a whole other dark abyss of laughter.

In “The Original English,” an American writer discovers that his latest book has become a smash hit in Italy—but not for the reason he expected. Writer and director Thomas Dolan-Gavitt says, “This play brings together a lot of my lifelong passions: Italian, writing, translation and…wait, the play is Sunday? THIS Sunday? All right, I have to call you back.”

In “Murderfuck,” two detectives descend into the criminal underworld to investigate a dangerous new sport known only as Murderfuck. “The show contrasts the vulgarity of its world with an elevated sing-songy, screwball-type patter that appeals to audiences who like fun,” explains writer and director Nate Myers. “If you don’t like fun, this isn’t the show for you.”

The double feature is a collaboration between St. Louis-born writer/director duo Myers and Dolan-Gavitt, who have co-written projects ever since their original partnership in a high school newspaper more than a decade ago.

Myers and Dolan-Gavitt have received accolades including placement on LA’s Bitch List, a collection of industry-leading scripts that pass the Bechdel test and feature strong female leads.

“The Original English” stars stars Silvia Bottini, Francesco Capussela, Erika Nadir, and Steven Salisbury.

“Murderfuck” stars Jenn An, Nerea Duhart, and Christ Osborn.

“The Original English” and “Murderfuck” open at Asylum’s Studio C with a preview performance Sunday, June 9 at 1:30pm. It will run five performances: June 9 @ 1:30pm / June 13 @ 7:30pm / June 22 @ 5:30pm / June 26 @ 7:30pm / June 30 @ 12:00pm. Tickets are $5 on the Hollywood Fringe Festival website or at the door. Runtime is 30 minutes.
