YOU WANT A CAREER BREAK. HE WANTS TO SLEEP WITH YOUR HUSBAND. WHAT’S YOUR ANSWER?
Yes. No. Maybe.
‘Yes. No. Maybe.’
Suttle’s new dramedy looks at the other side to the #MeToo movement: there are a lot of people who try to use sex to advance their careers and we live in a world where sex and sexiness are used to sell almost everything.
And yet we’re more comfortable as a society to let kids watch graphic violence than simulated sex. The play is a twist on ‘Indecent Proposal’, in the context of the #MeToo movement, and the changing landscape of what constitutes a ‘normal’ relationship. One person’s Indecent Proposal is another person’s Decent Proposal. If your husband sleeps with him, he’ll launch your career and give you both a lifetime of success. Would you both agree to it? Yes. No. Maybe?
The play combines drama and comedy with elements of dance to tell the story. You get to vote before and after the show too in case you’ve changed your mind about what your answer would be to a proposition of sex for money/career advancement.
Thorne & Fleur are struggling. They lost their house when they couldn’t pay their mortgage during the government shut-down because Fleur wasn’t paid in time at her ‘survival’ job. They’re still hoping for the lucky break in their careers. And then Thorne meets Austen, a wealthy man who takes a shine to Thorne and wants to help him, but has ulterior motives. When Fleur finds out that Thorne has a new friend who could help her screenwriting career, she’s keen to exploit Thorne’s friendship with him.
So, what’s worth more to you? Monogamy or ‘Making It’? And why would anyone pay for something that they could get for free?
