Maron Doll

I had the honor of interviewing the cast of both plays, “Formula 3” and “Maron Doll”. Then I had the huge pleasure to sit and allow myself to go on the journey. Writer & Director, Soo Chyun, takes her storytelling to a new level.

“Maron Doll” seems, at first, a classic story of a mother and daughter. This time the mother leaves when the daughter is young. The daughter grows up to resent her mother while doing her best to love her own daughter.

She returns to confront her mother, who is alone and doing her best to live out her elder years. They discover things about each other, while we analyze our own relationship with our mother. Making amends with our own thoughts.

Chyun has a unique and beautiful way of telling stories. With an exquisite mix of western and eastern storytelling that makes the stories both a fable and a reflection of real life. Such that I could see these made into a feature film.

I recommend both “Formula 3” and “Maron Doll”, which you can see as a double feature at the Secret Rose Theater at 11246 W Magnolia Blvd, North Hollywood, CA 91601 with the last shows on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 7:00 pm with a matinee on Sunday at 3:00 pm.
