Reena Lalita Desai is proud to present the opening of her One-Woman Show, Devadasi: A Story of Sex, Power and Devotion at the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

In Devadasi, Reena takes you on her journey into a Russian Tantric Cult, where she falls in love with a “spiritual master,” who she makes her God. By helping Reena awaken to an ancient remembrance of herself as a Devadasi, an Indian Temple Priestess, what is at first an empowering relationship soon turns into one of psychological and spiritual manipulation.

Through direct interventions by the Goddess Kali, Reena wakes up to face the pain of her reality and her own self-hate, a centuries old, patriarchal force. Through dance and devotion to the Goddess, Reena reclaims her power and discovers the sacredness of her body and sexuality.

This is a true story of a woman’s path to empowerment and self-love. Through 8 different characters, movement and dance, Reena takes you on an intimate, humorous and mystical journey into the underworld.
