World Premiere at the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2015
Logline: Jane Austen’s ‘Northanger Abbey’ in today’s L.A.
HOLLYWOOD, CA, June 2015 – Producer of Four Tree Plays, Encore! Producers’ Award winner and Fringe First Freak Award nominee (Best World Premiere), Ray Burley Productions (RBP) proudly returns to the Hollywood Fringe Festival with the World Premiere of Catherine, an adaptation of Jane Austen’s feel good classic, “Northanger Abbey.” Playing at the Elephant Studio on Hollywood’s Theatre Row, Catherine is set in modern day Hollywood and explores a comical coming-of-age romance. Guileless and good-hearted Catherine must navigate a new city and the egos of the characters she encounters on her way: fickle friends, unwanted lovers, and perhaps even a murderer. Her wild imagination may humiliate her, but the false rumors others spread could ruin her. Show dates: June 8-27, 2015. Run-time: 1hr. Ages 12+. All shows are Pay-What-You-Can. Tickets/Reservations: http://hff15.org/2260.
Opening June 8th and playing through June 27th, Catherine has 13 performances with various show times ranging from 4:00pm to 8:30pm throughout the week, providing several opportunities to see it. Preview/Press Opening is on Monday, June 8th at 5:30pm. Ray Burley Productions is committed to the idea that “art should be accessible to anybody” and continues its communal attitude of “Pay-What-You-Can.” Suggested donations are on a sliding scale, depending on income (1-hr worth of wages). They believe finances should not be a hindrance to audiences. By making theatre accessible to all, RBP is expanding the sense of community in Los Angeles and empowering audiences with thought-provoking material and an appreciation for classic literature, in a thoughtful, intimate environment.
In December 2014, RBP produced 4 special holiday performances of The Gift of the Magi at The Red Dragon Café in Hollywood to raise money for 4 charities as a gift: Children’s Hospital, Children of the Night, People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), and Downtown’s Women’s Shelter. Last year’s theme was environmental stewardship with Four Tree Plays. This year, RBP focuses on love for literature and hopes to inspire a new generation of Austen fans with Catherine. RBP feels that women are underrepresented in today’s entertainment landscape. With a female lead, female playwright, and female director, RBP is paving the way towards equality. RBP understands the importance of theatre and the impact of sending a meaningful message through this medium.
