Two provocative, funny and affecting one-act plays pit true believers with contradictory perceptions of the world against one another. An evening that explores fact, fiction and the grey areas that exist between. From jurors arguing the intangible elements of a case to a menacing exchange with an unbalanced stranger, chance encounters between mismatched partners spark impassioned confrontations that force each to look outside her comfort zone, as a struggle for power erupts that will test deeply held beliefs.

In Viki Boyle’s “The Whole Truth,” a take-charge executive and an unassuming housewife face off when they are sequestered together during a high profile trial. One argues for conviction while the other leans toward acquittal, and each has reasons more private than they will admit. Razor-edged dialogue and unexpected revelations ask the audience to consider whether the facts can ever convey the whole truth.
Andrea Goyan’s “Cornered” finds Ruth, an off-duty waitress, approached by a mysterious stranger with an innocuous request. Initially sympathetic, Ruth soon finds herself ensnared in a dangerous game of Truth or Dare with an increasingly unsettling partner. Confidences and demands become more and more outlandish until Ruth must confront her new acquaintance. What she discovers is not what she expects.
Written by two acclaimed women playwrights and featuring a powerful all female ensemble, …OR DARE — wherein lies the truth? is directed by David Robinson and features Jennifer Ashe, Jacey Margolis and Kate Whitney. Produced by Ashe for The Foundry Theatre Works, the show begins a five performance run on Sunday, June 7, at the New Collective during the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Additional performances are Sunday, June 14 at 6 p.m.; Friday, June 19 at 8p.m.; Sunday June 21 at 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 27 at 6 p.m. Running time is one hour. ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM AND CAST
VIKI BOYLE (Playwright) is an award-winning actress, playwright and poet. Her one-act “Term Limit” won the 15 Minute Play Festival at New York’s American Globe Theatre. Her plays “Home Game” and “Moving Violation” have received multiple off-Broadway and regional productions. She collaborated on Douglas Kampsen’s tribute to Rosemary Clooney, “A Dash of Rosemary,” and together they write a series of New York City walking tours called NYC Trivia Tours. Historic Greenwich Village and The Bright Lights of Times Square are currently available on Amazon.
ANDREA GOYAN’s (Playwright) Cornered was originally produced as part of the NoHo Arts Festival, and later partnered her play, “In the Coop,” for a run at the Whitefire Theatre. She is a founding member of the Foundry Theatre Works, which has produced her plays “A Herd of One,” “Popsicle Pop” and “When Elephants Fly.” Her work has also been performed at the NoHo Studios, The Raven, The Complex and the Secret Rose. Goyan’s short story, “Confined,” was published in the 2014 anthology, Believe Me Not an Unreliable Anthology. She is currently at work on a science fiction novel that will be released later this year.
DAVID ROBINSON (Director) has served as artistic director of the Foundry Theater Company since 1998, helming critically acclaimed productions including “The Porch” and “Miss Write.” A member of the renowned Director’s Lab West (partnered with the Lincoln Center Directing Program), Robinson recently directed the West Coast premiere of Joan Didion’s “The Year Of Magical Thinking”, the highly acclaimed “The Unexpected Man” by Yasmina Reza and last year’s Hollywood Fringe production of Mike Rad’s “The Crackerjack.” He has directed at The Centre Theatre in Buffalo and La MaMa in New York City, as well as at Baliwick Rep and The Victory Gardens Theatre in Chicago, where he was named Director of the Year by Time Out Magazine. In Los Angeles, Robinson has directed for The Hudson, The Secret Rose, Acme Comedy Theatre and The Upright Citizens Brigade, among others.
JENNIFER ASHE (Producer/Performer) is a founding member of the Foundry Theatre Works, where she was instrumental in developing, producing and performing dozens of new works, including Maryanne Melloan’s “Elsa: Whore of the Yukon,” “The Celery Conspiracy” and “Wellness Shakes.” As a member of New York City’s Manhattan Class Company, Ashe appeared as Blue in the their most ambitious work, Alan Bowne’s “Beirut.” Other New York credits include Charlie Peter’s “Hollywood Scheherazade,” “Ladies of the Fortnight” and “Sexual Perversity in Chicago” at the Douglas Fairbanks Theatre. She began her career in the original cast of ABC’s “Loving,” and spent many happy years on “As the World Turns” as Meg Snyder Reyes Landry.
JACEY MARGOLIS (Performer) is delighted to be making her Fringe Festival debut in the Foundry Theater Work’s …OR DARE — wherein lies the truth?. Some other favorite credits include Ka’ak on Syfy’s “Outer Space Astronauts” (now on You Tube), Daisy in the short film “Slippage” and as a voice artist in a new primetime cartoon that’s tightly under lock and key. A graduate of NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Jacey is thrilled to be back in the theater.
KATE WHITNEY (Performer) a recently-made member of The Actor’s Studio, has played such roles as Stella in “Streetcar Named Desire,” Maggie in “Dancing at Lughnasa,” Carol in a California tour of David Mamet’s “Oleanna,: Beatrice in “Much Ado About Nothing” and Helena/Hermia in “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the Ford Amphitheatre. She has also appeared as Cunningham in “The Last Days of Judas Iscariot” at the Odyssey Theatre, followed by the Princess of Eboli in “God’s Gypsy” at the Electric Lodge. She has written nine feature films that were produced and distributed by Plus Entertainment, four of which she directed and co-produced.
THE FOUNDRY THEATRE WORKS was founded in 1992 as a place for actors, writers and directors to create and explore new works. The group provides its members with a creative and critical arena in which to develop compelling dramatic and comedic material.
