HERMAN POPPE appeared on Broadway as Don Carlos in Gower Champion’s production of A FLEA IN HER EAR and as Fedotik in THREE SISTERS, directed by Bill Ball; in San Francisco for 5 seasons at ACT; in Shakespeare festivals in California and Oregon; in summer stock around the country; in Los Angeles in VOLPONE and THE DEATH AND LIFE OF JESSE JAMES (Mark Taper Forum), A DATE WITH DESTINY (Write Act Repertory), FATHER PREACH’S MOBILE CONFESSIONAL (Moving Arts – The Car Plays), INFINITE BLACK SUITCASE (Moving Arts, Los Angeles Theatre Center), DANCE WITH ME? (Playwrights Theatre @ Torrance Cultural Arts Center), LADIES OF THE CAMELLIAS (West End Playhouse), THE SADNESS OF WINE (Santa Monica Playhouse), DINNER IN MISSION VIEJO (Powerhouse Theatre), MURDER FOR RENT (Gypsy Playhouse) and others; in such films as STIR CRAZY, PALE RIDER, THE ROCKETEER, and Mel Brooks’ ROBINHOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS; and on television from A (pple’s Way) to Y (ellow Rose). He has been Vice President of the Board of Directors and a member of the Artistic Committee of FIRST STAGE where he has directed or acted in close to two hundred plays, including the workshop productions of QUARTET, THEATRE HELL, HEROIC MEASURES and PARTITIONS.
