That's funny. You didn't sound black on the phone.

This one woman show turned out to be a very personal one for me. I might as well have been raised on the tenets of "The Preppy Handbook." While Jaquetta struggled to embrace these ridiculous rules, I initially clung to them as a life style, and then pushed away from them as hard as I could. This amazing journey is wonderfully funny, brilliant, and heartbreaking by turns. The writing is only topped by the incredible performance itself. I'm looking forward to Part Two, in which we hear more abo... full review

Shakespeare's "King Phycus"

If you have any love for the bard, or even if you don't, do not miss this production. The cast is amazing with some of the fastest quick changes I've ever seen, hilarious twists on well known characters, and unbelievably clever writing that mixes the absurd with the revered. I laughed so much I was only able to get to my car and get home! The Spolin Players heartily endorse King Phycus and all it's characters and wonderfully funny bits. Don't miss this one!... full review

I Never Met A Jerk I Didn't Like

Tiffany Phillips is a one woman Tsunami in her various portrayals of the jackasses she, and most all women have dated at one time or another. She sings like a bird and switches effortlessly from her own persona to to the aforementioned morons in quick succession. I also absolutely loved her back up dancers who jumped in and out with perfect precision and enriched her inner dialogue. This is a joy and release for all women who've been enamored with the "bad boys."... full review

The Real Housekeepers of Studio City

Was a wonderful toe tapping palate cleanser after some of the more intense productions. The cast is perfectly directed as a unit with great timing, strong musical comedy voices, and even inventive choreography that makes a small space seem even bigger. Very clever dialogue, and a trip into TV Land make for a very fun experience. We totally enjoyed it.... full review

The Ruby Besler Cabaret

Ruby Besler takes us back to a time when girls with "no prospects" were taught to live by their wits, which often included the world's oldest profession. Switching back and forth, Anastasia Barnes embodies the role of her domineering mother, and Ruby herself, while singing various numbers of delightfully raunchy tunes, along with a wistful torch song. Her sexy corseted back up singer/dancers play various roles brilliantly, an accompanist who could follow you through a blizzard, and the conceit... full review

Cleaner Than Blood

Take three disparate characters with vengeful agendas, add a basement, a weapon, and some very good liquor, and you have the basis for an intense evening with good performances. Alex Scott has directed a complex piece with a deft hand. Think dark. From the script to the stage lighting. A moody but intriguing piece of theater. It starts mid action and never lets go. ... full review

The Viola Mountain Door Company

Small towns often survive by having a factory where everyone works. Greg Abbott embodies all the characters who work together to craft beautiful wooden doors in a world that values everything just a little bit less than it use to. Each of these characters are very different, but Abbott's transitions are seamless. Funny and heartbreaking by turns, we see these people come and go quickly, but leave a lasting impression. It's a sweet trip to take to a simpler time.... full review

A Man of No Importance

Tonight was an amazing night of theater. Janet Miller has mounted a brilliant production with a shining cast at The Lillian Theater for The Fringe. Terence McNally's Irish musical is sparkling, and this production is not to be missed. The performances are remarkable, the singing first rate, and the celtic score played by excellent musicians. Do NOT miss this show! ... full review

Social media can hurt you and help you! A group of great actors get together and prove that life in LA is difficult at best, and exciting at it's worst. The human factor gets lost in a sea of tweets, texts, instagrams, and smartphones that seem welded to the players hands. Clever, funny, and heartbreaking, this is new satire that says be careful what you wish for. ... full review

BOBBYWOOD: WHATEVER HAPPENED TO BOBBY THE BELLBOY?

A wonderful time travel back to the early days of TV through the eyes of a grade A raconteur. Billy Ratner does it all and takes you with him as he finds his long lost uncle and gets schooled in the ways of tinseltown and life. Funny, smart, and full of heart. And Jonathan Menchen on the keyboard adds just the right tone to keep you in the mood. Don't miss this hour, it goes by too quickly.... full review
