Fancy! A Southern Gothic Camp Parable

What a clever idea for a show! Chris Farrah gives a dynamic performance in this one-woman show. The show is skillfully structured, seamlessly transitioning from story to song to performance and back again. Farrah moves ably moves the piece along as she brings three characters to life. This really has all the makings of a fantastic night of theater. The story can easily be extended to 90 minutes, and I would like to see the piece touch on the sadness of the situation along with the humor.... full review

What can I say that hasn't already been said? Michael Kass gives a great performance as he shares his journey. The opening and ending of the show are perfectly connected, and really immerse the audience in the show. I loved the clever use of props to tell the story. The bright colored buckets were an interesting choice, and perfectly illustrates how one can do so much with so little. (Very Fringe-y!) A wonderful story. Highly Recommended.... full review

Untitled: We're Doing a Play

It was a fun premise, but it got a bit lost in its own silliness. The actors (a talented ensemble) were game for whatever the script threw at them and their energy helped carry the show. A reoccurring bit with the inflatable couch was laid on too thick, and the humor was sophomoric. The marketing and the trailer are both very clever and hint at the talent and potential the piece (and the creators) have. Would like to see what they could do given a bit more time.... full review

Vivaldi's Winter

The show is an interesting collection of three pieces. 1 monologue, an unrelated scene, and then another monologue that is connected to the first. The show is doublecast so that two actors are playing four characters, however, I think the show would have benefited from having a cast of four. There was a bit of sameness from having two actors play parts that also were connected thematically. Each actor, as well, seemed more strongly suited for one of their roles, but not both. The last m... full review

One Man Show: A Duet

A fast and funny night of theater. The show is fun and silly without being stupid or resorting to cheap laughs. Mark and TJ give engaging and likeable performances and seem game for anything. Their energy and chemistry is among the best I've see at the Fringe. My one quibble with the show is that it does not really seem to be about its premise. The two characters talk about Tim as if he is a separate entity, and the show doesn't seem to remember that the two narrators are actually the sa... full review

What a great piece of theater. Anastasia brings two characters to life! She creates a beautiful and believable relationship between two different characters. This is a special story. I look forward to seeing this piece develop in the future. The story could easily be extended to 90 minutes, as there is more to find out about Gracie, Rose, and Yula. Highly recommended!... full review

If You're Watching This, I'm Dead.

A fantastic performance. Lisa is dynamic! She adeptly moves from pain to humor to reflection in her piece, and this auto-biographical one-woman show admirably never feels indulgent. She remains engaging throughout, charming, witty, likable while managing to avoid appearing desperate or overeager. There are no shortage of anecdotes and tragedy in her life (lucky for us, sucks for her!) The structure of the show could have been strengthened a bit to provide a more cohesive narrative, but t... full review

The show was thoroughly charming. I was impressed with its ability to avoid being too cutesy or too light or too self-serious. It felt a little "workshoppy" but that is the nature of the piece. It was non-traditional in staging and story and the piece needs some creative exploration before it is complete. It didn't feel complete, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the show. Some of the cast members took a while to warm up to their roles, but by the end of the show they all shined. ... full review

A great collection of one-acts. The cast was terrific, and the writing was top notch. The first one-act "Ten Minutes to Go" was funny and engaging throughout as we peeled back more information on the damaged souls in the piece. Jerry Chappell brings an enthusiasm to his role that is at first infectious, and eventually moving as the veneer cracks and we get a peek at his character's hurt and anger. Mindy Warick ably conveys a likability that's touched, but not drowned, with uncertainty and guil... full review

The BEATING

An interesting production, but might ultimately be a victim of mismanaged expectations. While the case before the jury does in fact involve spanking, the play itself is not an exploration about that. It is much more a satirical look at the American Criminal Justice system as a whole, and the case presented to the jurors is interchangeable with any other case. The cast, as a whole, was strong, but the production failed to engage me.... full review
