For a musical theatre buff like myself, seeing [title of show] in a city full of national tours and musical parodies is a breath of fresh air. I must disclaim, though, that being very familiar with the original cast of [tos], the people who inspired and wrote the musical have infiltrated my vision for what this show is supposed to be. My own personal bias aside, you have to applaud this cast for taking on such difficult material that might seem easy and effortless to an untrained ear. Without ... full review

One Man Show: A Duet

If there ever was a show at The Hollywood Fringe for dudes and bros, One Man Show: A Duet would be it! This hilarious and inventive new comedy by Joe DeSoto and TJ Marchbank is much in the style of Superbad or Knocked Up with all of its stoner humor. Mark Jacobson, who gave a scene stealing performance as the Left side of the brain (among other small roles), even reminded me a bit of Jonah Hill. The Show started out as your "average radio play". I entered the Fringe Mainstage to find a handful of music stands set up alongside a table of objects to create folly effects. The cast was made of an apt group of character ... full review

THE OTHER F WORD

This witty and poignant script by Alyson Mead recounts a focus group discussing a dainty pen marketed towards women, through an interweaving monologue for four. The subtlety and simplicity of Danielle Ozymandias' staging allows Mead's script to shine, yielding non-stop laughter. Tiffany Rebecca Royale delivers a standout performance as the uptight attorney with a hidden heart of gold, Roxanne. Her deft characterization and understated power reminded me of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada.... full review

We Are The 0%

Having seen the original incarnation of We Are The 0% last year, I was curious to see what the Clownma gang cooked up for their Fringe revival. We Are The 0% tells the story of a rag-tag gang of hippy clowns fighting against the injustices of the 1%, which includes a rich "Fat Cat" banker clown, his young Kardashian-esque clown wife, and a duo of macho clown cops. This new production of The 0% is splashy, colorful, and stylish, taking the idea of sprightly circus clowns into the 21st century. St... full review
