Maya May

Maya May is a writer and stand-up who turned to humor to navigate the awkwardness of growing up a black nerd and only child in suburban Chicago. Maya has featured at some of the country’s best independent showcases, including Brooklyn’s Butterboy, Chicago’s Lincoln Lodge and Hollywood Improv’s Women Crush Wednesdays. Her comedy is just like she is: engaging, mischievous, and deliciously over-the-top. Since moving back to the US in 2013 after 8 years overseas, she has taken her unique perspective on American life to stages all over the country.

A former Film Independent Project:Involve screenwriting fellow, Maya has a BA in Political Science and an MFA in Creative Writing; her work has been featured in Time Out, Abernathy, and the Massachusetts Review. She is currently at work on her first solo show, an action-adventure based on her 48 hours in South America’s Triple Frontier.
