Hey Hollywood, My Hustle Has ADHD

As a South-Asian comedy writer and Hollywood Fringe Festival 2017 Diversity Scholarship Winner, Mathur brings the “model minority” stereotype to the forefront, demonstrating how undetected mental issues wreak havoc on an otherwise talented, intelligent human being. After a seven week-long run in the Valley, Rasika took “Mom? Dad? I Have A.D.H.D…and other ways to let down The Indian Family” on a mini-tour of the south, ending the show in New Orleans as a “coming out” performance to her parents. There were lots of hugs, lots of tears. In this evolution of her show, Mathur attempts to explain herself to the Industry, and what happens when one slides off of every surface she throws herself at (“I was the only Indian who wasn’t cast in ‘Outsourced!’”), tortured with little explanation, until a diagnosis later in life. Mathur flexes her gifts for audience-interaction, character portrayals and solid writing. The show is eye-opening for many parents, creative people and those in the mental health and drug/alcohol recovery fields, and has the potential to change lives.
