Group of Local LA Artists Decide to Stop Waiting and Start Making Art
The Will Play For Food Theatre Group was born out of hunger. A hunger to create art that they had complete control over, where the choices and consequences, successes and failures were entirely their own. Realizing that it was pointless to wait around for someone to open a door, the only thing to do was bust a hole in the wall.
First: The Script. "We wanted something contemporary, but with a classic feel. A script that reaches back into theater history in search of the connections that bind us all together." says Scott Marden, the show's Director. "In the end, the choice was simple: The Nina Variations by Steven Dietz."
The play takes Nina(a young actress) and Treplev(a young writer) from Chekhov's The Seagull, locks them in a room, and doesn't let them out. Through 44 variations on their infamous final scene, ...
