In the wake of Queen Victoria’s wedding, two aristocratic families decide their heirs—Lucas and Alfred—need to find women to marry. Lucas’ sister Charlotte in fact wants to marry Alfred. But, Lucas and Alfred are already in love, with each other. Alfred’s cousin Helena tries to help them, especially when Alfred’s father intends to disinherit him if he fails to marry. But Lucas worries because he (rightly) suspects Helena is in love with Charlotte. These and other mysteries/issues come to a head one night at Helena’s manor, in which a host of mistaken identities, revelations, and romantic entanglements lead to a duel!
