An aging writer takes 1 last trip and shares a story that has haunted him for years.
Jack Straw is a harrowing tale of love, brotherhood and betrayal. Inspired by the lyrics of John Barlow & Robert Hunter, this epic story unfolds to the music of the Grateful Dead. Told by a huge cast of characters; from railroad thugs, corrupt politicians, innocent young beauties, hardened madams, kind hearted strangers and slick suited drug dealers.
Set against the backdrop of American history, we watch as Jack and Shannon try to stay afloat and stay out of trouble while literally living on the other side of the tracks at the end of the Great Depression.
Riding the rails across America, they see both the best it has to offer and the worst.
One slip of a knife leads them to increasingly desperate measures to stay alive. On the run, a card game goes sour and tragedy unfolds. Not to mention the looming specter of a World War to come…
During the course of the war, heartache comes to all. Events on the home front bring no comfort to those who have made it back alive and Jack finds himself again dragged into the dark underbelly of the American dream. A final event leaves Jack with unanswered questions that will consume the rest of his life.
