What I liked

I was lol’ing from the first musical number all the way to the end. The production is lucky to have snagged Joey Hunt as Nick, because his is the glue holding all the performances together.

The cast is really committed to the conceit of this show, and I thought the musical numbers were very fun. It was obvious the audience loved it.

Additionally, the Broadwater’s main stage space is nice, open and comfy.

There’s nothing like this show playing in all of Los Angeles in 2019, so everyone should check it out!

What I didn't like

I’m not familiar with the original source material, so I’m not sure how much I can critique the writing. But sometimes it felt like I was watching plot happen versus watching characters make choices.

The directing was mostly good — and I understand the serious limitation of not being able to rehearse in the space — but for such a wacky show, it was sometimes unclear where Nick’s apartment ended and other parts of his world began. Minor critique: I also felt like there were some blocking and choreography opportunities missed.

My overall impression

Walking into this show, I expected it to be weird. (I mean, it’s Fringe and it’s a comedy horror about a demon-possessed cat.) I didn’t expect it to be bonkers. It was everything I expected and so much more! Delightfully ridiculous. Deliciously obnoxious.
