First – there is this amazing instrument – a pipe organ made of PVC pipe that has all the notes of a piano – played with paddles. And it sounds amazing. Add exceptionally trained young musicians who graduated from Loyola Marymount, who know their craft inside and out. Also add dance training, a love of showmanship, and a lightness of being that permeates the space, and you have a wonderful hour.
What I didn't like
They need more than an hour. A full concert would be incredible. The Rimba Tube is a very difficult instrument, and takes a lot of physicality – that was obvious, so a longer show might not be possible without a break in the middle.
My overall impression
I loved everything about this show — the musicianship, the enthusiasm and love of what the performers were doing on stage, the talent of the genius kid who built the Rimba Tube instrument (with his Dad) — the entertainment value. Oh, and there was tap dancing as well. There is no way a person can see this show and not leave in the best mood ever. I want to see this again and again, and I hope they get an encore so more people can experience this.
