What I liked

Mounted in a small yet comfortable venue, the production values were simple and effective. The single projection of a beach at sunset provided the perfect backdrop for the engaging storyline.

The script was well written, with a solid combination of wit and pathos. Both actors delivered excellent performances. I was especially impressed with Caprita’s skill as both a playwright and an actor!

What I didn't like

The least successful aspect of the production was the quality of the direction. The blocking, which actually started off beautifully with Jake laying on the stage drunk and immobile as the audience entered, was basically repetitive, with the actors continuously pacing back and forth across the stage. The acting, although strong, was directed to be one note and lacked the shading and nuance that would have helped the impact of story.

My overall impression

Jake & the Angel — a brisk half hour of well written, well acted theatre!
