Glitch

So, this is more specifically a "suggestion" than I typically like to give, because hey, this isn't my show, after all. But I just have to say,because I see a future for this show- I think this is begging to be something a little different than what it is- maybe a solo show- we either need WAY more of the reporter, or way less... or maybe keep Rachel without doing too much to the script and simply make her sit in the front row and give all of the stage space to Jonathan- the current setup takes away from the impact of the piece- also the current blocking minimizes the potential of the whole thing... This is an important show that should be tweaked a bit and then taken on the road - we need to talk about this topic and this show does a grea... full review

Snyder-Eaton’s production of Glitch captured all the horror of a world where mass shootings have become commonplace. The shooter lives in a world where life has treated him hatefully, brutishly, and, what seems to be worst for him, inconsequentially. Snyder-Eaton’s play forces the audience to wrestle with the notion that freedom permits eccentricity and even madness; and to a point, enables it. ... full review

Right from the get go the audience of “glitch” gets a sense of being part of a prison interview with the perpetrator of a mass shooting. The atmosphere of the theatre seems to pull the audience into the mind of the shooter providing a chillingly intimate look at his perspective. Fascinating details about the shooter’s life and rationalization are revealed as the reporter probes for answers. The writer provides the viewer with a high stakes show that is guaranteed to have you questioning what part society may have played in allowing a “glitch” to leave its mark on the world we live in. Haunting, captivating, important. To be able to have empathy with a sociopath seems like an unconquerable task. To get into their mind seems unsettling and dark. Yet, this show is an equal display of a call for change as it is a call to understand those we don’t want to, so we can have that hope to change at all. I felt myself begin to humanize this disgusting man - not because of his reasoning for his unthinkable actions, but because of the circumstances which allowed him to grow into someone who could kill so easily and in his mind, reasonably.
