What I liked

Due to shenanigans having to do with his estate and the EU, Drac is plopped at the home of his nearest living relative in Glendale and proceeds to reluctantly insinuate himself into the Hollywood entertainment scene. The campy artifice provides cover for some panto-style pop culture commentary, but it’s mostly weird fun. I enjoyed being encouraged to sing along with the “monsters” (lyrics are projected on the wall). Carrie Keranen’s Quasimodo stand-up routine and Jeff Sumner’s creepy The Creep are stand-outs. The rest of the cast (Marz Richards, Ryan Johnson, Crystal Keith, Bryan Krasner, Brian Wallis, Brendan Broms) is uniformly superb, sinking their collective teeth into the neck of this bizarre beast with gusto!

What I didn't like

Some of the material doesn’t really land, but I expect they will tighten as the run progresses. The song about the joys of being a child molester might be a bit over the line for some. I laughed, but I still felt uneasy. Maybe that’s the point.

My overall impression

A cabaret that careens from Kool & the Gang to Moz to Katy Perry to Bauhaus? Sign me up!
