I love how the show used a projected video screen between transitions. Having each stagehand go in and out of the audience to make it look like one of the audience was insulting him, was hilarious. Some scenes also try to fool you into thinking the show made continuity errors when it turns out that each touch was intentional.
What I didn't like
The ending did feel somewhat weak by suddenly introducing an element with little build-up. It would’ve been more effective if Matthew mentioned his wife and kid more in the story instead of showing us the pictures of them by the near end.
My overall impression
What an entertaining show! The way the show is constructed made for an interactive and unique experience. Matthew Gudernatch’s usage of the video screen, prop, puppet, guitar, and the song felt very well prepared to express the story they wanted to tell. While the subject is heavy and sad, Matthew’s acting brings levity to the play. While the respect for his mother is still present, he can seamlessly shift into a comedic tone in the next through clever dialogue.
