What I liked
Most notably, was the simplicity and power Smith creates in a pair of shoes and what the shoes represent to the people who wore them. Shoes define character, intent and dreams or the lack of dreams which often means a dream deferred. The shoes simply sat downstage on the floor close to the audience as she introduced the characters who wore them. Zadia Ifes’ direction created a sense of these characters in a feeling of closeness to those who watched the show as if they were there, alive on the stage with Smith.
What I didn't like
A Mile in my Shoes is a must see and I believe it should move to a larger space for a greater audience to view.
My overall impression
Kathryn Taylor Smiths’ compassionate view of homelessness will touch the heart of all. Based on real life events of love and loss in America she unfolds issues of real people down on their luck, mentally ill, and heart broken; yet fighting to stay alive. Smith combines historical events told through the images of shoes and who wore them; amazed at their life or the life they use to have.
