What I liked

I liked the clarity of the staging, and the natural ease of the actors to live within their world. I found the actors bold in their choices, and unafraid to be vulnerable. There was a unity of all participating artists – the language of inner lives told the story without need for adornments. We are seeing more and more blended culture families – a very important topic to explore in today’s America.

What I didn't like

I would like to see a longer version so the relationships would have more time to develop over an evening. For instance, it would be interesting to see more of Rose before she reaches this stage of bitterness and anger; we would have more compassion for her as a person.

My overall impression

I was deeply affected by the power of the writing, directing and acting to bring to life the internal conflicts that often lay buried in individuals and then explodes into fractured relationships. The writing reminded me of the power of O’Neill to express these inner lives, and the poetry of Chekhov that illuminates the longing beneath our failures to connect.
