What I liked
I liked how she did not shy away from the shame people try to inflict on Black women who wear their natural hair. The taunts and rejection begin in childhood which make young black girls desperate to straighten their hair. I enjoyed how Ella portrayed characters that both encouraged her natural hair jouney and others that sought to destroy her confidence because of her choice.
What I didn't like
I would have loved to see a picture of Ella’s hair when it was in locs.
My overall impression
This is a must see show. Ella is an excellent actress and navigates the sensitive issues of identity and acceptance with heartfelt honesty.
